Duncan competed in the British Formula Atlantic championship
driving for the well know Formula 2 wining team, Plygrange.
He was given the chance to test the Atlantic car, a
Chevron B45 ex Keke Rosberg/Jim Crawford car on a cold
November day at Brands Hatch in 1982 and the test was overseen
by none other than ex Grand Prix Lotus driver Jim Crawford.
Duncan received a telephone a week later asking him to travel
up to The Plygrange Racing Team in Bolton, to have a proper seat
fitting as he was being offered the Formula Atlantic drive!
On his debut race at Silverstone Duncan surprised
everyone by finishing a creditable fourth in only his first race,
pleasing both the Team and his mentor Jim Crawford. During the
1983 season Duncan knotched up a further 4 top six finishes and
1 podium position in only his 1st season in the British Formula
Atlantic championship.
In 1984 Duncan was retained by the Plygrange racing team to compete
in the British Formula Atlantic Championship for a second consecutive
season. This time his Chevron B45 was sporting a new livery and
sponsor for the season.
The season went well for Duncan finishing on the podium 3 more
times and never finishing out of the top six.
